So over on Bladeforums, they have been talking about a special release of 23 year Old Rip Van Winkle bourbon, and it got my mouth watering. Now, I'm not gonna spend $3-400 on a bottle of bourbon, since I'm more of a Scotch man, so I decided to hit a quality package store nearby and look for some of the 15.

I walked into my package store, and all I could find was the 10 year old. I figured, at that point - why bother? I've got bottles of scotch that will easily beat any measly 10 year old bourbon. So I asked one employee if they had the 15, and he said the ten was all they had - so I asked another, then another. Finally, the fourth employee looked like he had a clue, but was sure they were out of the 15. In the end, I had to settle for this:

It was just over a Benjamin. That's a lot for me to spend on scotch, let alone bourbon. I'm not normally a bourbon guy, but I figured go big or go home.

I get all tight over a $30 bottle of Pendleton..........

I can only imagine how good your bottle is gonna taste. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Honestly, I think the 12 or 15 would have been plenty good enough, but my choices were the 10 or the 20 so I opted for the 20.

It's VERY smooth. I don't notice the subtlety of flavor and depth of character I do with a good scotch, but I haven't had much good bourbon in the past so don't have much of a taste developed for its intricacies. Still a very, very good sipping drink.

I think the 10 was around $40. Old Rip Van Winkle isn't cheap stuff <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

At $40 I might have to try the 10.

Man, I could go for some Snyder's of Hanover Sourdough Pretzels to go with this. That would be tasty.

If I don't watch myself, I'm going to put a serious dent in this bottle tonight.

Pendleton is a GREAT blended. I've got a ton of friends who are devout Crown Royal drinkers....once I get them to try Pendleton they flip.

That Pappy's looks sweet, MM. I haven't seen it in any of the stores around my pad, but need to keep searching. I enjoy a scotch now and then, but bourbon is my poison. The liquor store closest to my house just started carrying Four Roses small batch, which I hear is very good for the money...I'm planning on picking up a bottle for the upcoming holiday.

Sportsnut.....awesome looking slabs!
