I've been thinking about stripping my S5. Has anyone stripped their coated blades and if so what did you use?

Heavy duty paint stripper from local hardware store will do it.
Do a search on stripping the coating, there's alot of posts about it.
Just remember if you do to keep it oiled or waxed.
And don't forget the pics. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I was a little worried about stripping my RMD but I did it anyway. As long as you don't leave water on it, its not going to rust. It is amazing though, you can sit and watch it patina with some water on it. I put a drop of canola oil(closest thing available) and smeared it around with my finger and left it for a week and it didn't patina or rust at all. Getting the surface marks off the sabre part was a PITA to do by hand. The pits hold water and turn brown in no time. They cleaned right up with a little sandpaper though so it might have actually been little microfilings in the pits that was rusting.

I've heard the gel epoxy stripper worked really well and is easy to apply.

That looks terrible! Tell me you polished it up after that and just didn't leave it all stained brown and yellow like that.

a little 60 grit and some oil and it will look fine. You could probably use a much finer grit if you aren't worried about getting the dimples out.

Acetone also work if you have some laying around. Stripping is the easy part, making it look good afterward is not so easy...

I have no interest in pretty knives. I use my knives hard. My knives get pine sap, bark dust, wood oil staining, blood, fruit acids, meat acids, and rust spots on them, I wipe them down with kerosene at the end of the day, nice patina formed over time.
