So are handle and blade options (color choices)something that come after the sale has been open for a while or is this just kind of it? I am anxious for my first busse but I am willing to wait for options.

No one really knows. It's part of the frustration of dealing with Busse. Jerry releases them one at a time, and usually doesn't really tell you if there will be other combinations or not. So if you want a certain knife really badly, you end up buying the first version of it you see, because you are afraid you will miss out, and then if they release the combo you actually want later, you buy another and hope you can sell the first one for what you paid.

And right now, the old tried and true "you can always sell a Busse for what you paid for it" is simply not holding true. There are so many knives on the market, both direct from Busse and second-hand, that many are selling at a significant loss.

It seems that looking at BF listings there are definitely versions that are holding value with most of the less useful knives not selling or selling at a loss. Satin and Fat Gamekeepers, DFLE, S5 Infi are some that seem to be at a premium.

Actually, the Yard knives seem to be the ones holding their value the best, followed by Swamp Rat.

The big, expensive Busses are the ones that are having the most trouble selling.

Also realize that the listed price doesn't REALLY tell you anything about what the value is.

I've got a couple of Busses listed - some at a decent profit and some at a loss, and none of them are selling, but if you were to look at my listings and assume those are the market price, you'd be wrong

I am still debating whether I want to get in on the BOSS street. I like the knife, but not sure for the price. I am starting to hit the point where I am starting to feel like I have plenty of knives, but need more guns for balance.

Looking at it in basic economic terms, there is not a lot of cash around so there is a flight to value and more demand around the lower price points.

The SY and SR knives start looking pretty attractive.

I'm debating on getting one too. I thought they would be a much better price hearing what was paid at blade west. This time of year is a bad time of year with Christmas and the economy, so I will probably pass, but if it was much thinner I would come up with the $227.00

Decided to set up the light box and snap a few comparison shots of the DCBB proto from Blade West...

that's actually the way I'm thinking right now. I hate missing out on the BWM and the Boss Street would be nice but long range power is what I'm really missing.

Long range power is exactly what I need also. After moving to Montana, the 30-30 is just not cutting it. I have my eye on a Tikka T3 in 30-06.

Shoot, I won't lie, I really like the BOSS. It is a great EDC size and would clean the heck out of my 4 legged furry feasts.

But, as always 227 is alot of cash right now. They are available "now" though. That is a bit tempting too.

Still, a heck of a design in my book. The AD and Meaner are close in size and they feel great in the hand IMHO.

I have so many knives in that size category that I'll probably pass (at least for now). As to the release being so near Christmas, I'll just say that Dog Father LEs were also released very near Christmas (I placed my order on 12/5/2007) and a lot of folks who passed because of the time of year later said that they wished they hadn't.

My personal finance advice isn't unique -- whenever possible, DO NOT carry credit card debt from one month to the next, and maintain an emergency fund. 2-1/2 months after getting out of the Navy, I was sooo close to abandoning everything I couldn't pack into the car and running back to my parents because I was still looking for a job and had almost nothing left in my bank or wallet. I was down to about $50 when I received a call that I'd gotten a job starting the next Monday; I resolved to never let that happen again. It's tempting to rationalize not maintaining a cash reserve when you have assets, but that puts you in the position of needing to sell things during an emergency when you'll want to be focused on dealing with whatever the crisis is. I've seen several folks have to sell their collections at a loss when hit with a setback because they had no buffer.

Sometimes, if you want something that'll only be available for a short time bad enough, it's OK to carry a CC balance for a month or two. If you're honest with yourself, regardless of whatever banter may pass on the forum, you know you do or don't really want, and what you can or can't afford (in these uncertain times). Enough preaching -- I'm just saying that, if the only reason you're passing on a BOSS Street is due to Christmas season's bills, you'll probably regret not getting one. However, if the reason is that your overall financial situation doesn't support it, then not buying one is exactly the right decision.
