Every once in awhile, I buy a knife simply because I like the style of it. This is why I have Gerber Sheridan. It's my only tanto, the acquisition of which tells a story about the knife collector community. When I was new to knives, and $50 was a lot for a knife, I joined BF and read all the flak about Gerber. Sure enough, I avoided the Gerbers I was attracted to for just that. The sheridan was eventually discontinued and I was spending hundreds on what I thought were far superior tools. Eventually I came of age and realized how huge a portion of that community never use their knives and exaggerate the benefits of their top shelf blades. High end steels serve more benefit to manufacturers than the consumer. A $25 import can do about 99% of what one will need to do with a knife. Only in staged scenarios do we see the advantage of a few supersteels, but most don't even deliver what their price tags demand in these tests either. As for the Sheridan, I was lucky to find one eventually on eBay, new in box, for about regular price.

Just because you're right doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I got a couple of real keeper knives, the foremost being my Camp Tramp. The Ratmandu, DMDC, my Golok, the Scrapmuk, are all ones that I have no desire to part with either. Being unemployed, I don't have $$ to float around anymore, so I've gravitated from looking for that next purchase, to really using the knives I've already got. Have to say though, that the Camp Tramp is the only knife I have that hasn't been used. At this time, it's still pristine and I want to keep it that way for as long as I can. As for the others, they get used for just about everything.
Cheers

When I first got into knives, I liked the thick stuff (i.e. DMCG), but I always tend to grab for the thinner stuff now.

Cheers Ditto on the Camp Tramp! I picked up a Tan one off BF a year or so ago. Fantastic knife that I can hardly bring myself to use (as it would be irreplacable if I lost it) That CT plus my S6 are I think, my 2 favourite Bussekins True Classics ; ) JB

I've migrated more towards medium to small blades and away from the larger ones..I feel I have plenty of large blades and only get minimum use out of them.
My current zone is the 3" to 6" blade size.

I now much prefer thinner stock knives, hell I even think my 1/8" stock ones look quite chunky now !!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
