another good point. DFLE's one of the last knives i'd ever part with. might even stay longer than the mudsnake fbm.

forgive my ignorance but the only differnce between the dfcg and dfle is the coating on the blade and lack of production number correct.
as opposed to the s5 being sr101 and the s5le being infi.
infi wins if i already own a dog father

The DFLE is thinner and faster. So they say. Was looking for one myelf, but pulled the trigger on a BWM as the secondary price of the DFLE was getting pretty [censored] close to it. Still, if it is ever re-released I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't. Get a good machete and I bet it will chop with the DF. Agree 100% and it will be about 2lbs lighter. Unless you really need the strength of the DF, it is a lot of knife.

I really want a DFLE but the secondary prices are close to the BWM, so its a tough call. I have just missed a few good deals on the Exchange. Maybe I need to post a WTB.
and from what I hear the DFLE and DFCG are worlds apart.

PitBro, JavaDog mentioned the DFLE is "thinner" than the DFCG. The DFLE is actually is just a little thinner at the spine than the DFCG. About 0.03 inches thinner. The primary difference is that the DFLE is a full height flat grind. It makes the blade noticeably lighter than the DFCG. I have both, and the DFLE would be the last to leave my collection. A lot of Dogs waited a long time for that knife to be made, so don't expect to see people from the Yard give them up easily! For me, the big draw to the Yard was the original DFCG. It's like a poor man's Battle Mistress to me. Then the sickness began. When the DFLE came around (a while later), I just had to buy one!
Intel440, if you have more than one S5LE, trade for the DFLE. Personally, I have an S5 CG, and that was enough S5 for me, so I didn't get the LE despite the intrigue of INFI. Good luck with your decision!

There are plenty of fantastic 4-5" knives from the kin around. There is only one knife that is the DFLE. Those who have them know that there is no substitute. Perfect match of the right steel, right grip, right grind.
Not sure the S5LE is functionally different than the CG. DFLE is definintely a different and superior (IMHO) knife to the DFCG. If I didn't have a S5LE, I'd grab a S5CG, or an RMD, or a DMLE, or a YKCG (very under-rated). If I didn't have a DFLE, I'd weep.
