Gotta be around there. I don't remember hearing or reading the hardness when it was released.
SYKCO JYD#112 It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

The original SHBMs were in the 60-62 range, however the normal range for INFI is now 58-60. The recent exception is the BAD from Busse which was once again up in the 60-62 rc range.
JYD#10 Blade '08 - I challenge coined Dan Busse and WON! Blade '10 - The score is now 2-0!

I took mt S-5 LE into a shop to get it sharpened and they were wanting to know what the RC was..
My S-5 LE has never been sharp from the time I received it from the yard. I can get most blades pretty sharp using my Lansky setup, but not this one.
I will give the shop a call tomorrow and tell them it is right around the 60rc range.

sportsnut, were they using a belt sander, grinder, etc? Reason I ask is I let an olt time knife maker mess with Infi and he told me it was no good metal in that knife--won't hold an edge. What it was, I suspect, is that he had never messed with Infi before and the way he was used to sharpening did not lend itself to the Infi properties--ie, rolling.

INFI doesn't throw a bunch of sparks when you grind it, and it grinds fairly easily, like some inexpensive 420 steels. But it does hold an edge very well. INFI is "different".
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I saw the belt sander in the back of the shop and ask about it. The lady told me it was a water cooled German manufactured model that was around $3,500 new. I also saw a couple of large leather strops hanging from the work bench. I have never had them do any work before, but know lots of folks that have and they all rave about their work. $7.00 for my Spyderco Renegade which is half serrated. $6.00 for my S-5 LE $5.00 for my Bird Dog LE

Send it in to SYKCO...it sounds like a bad heat treatment...Infi sharpens like a razor on a Lansky...only knives I ever had a problem with on taking an edge were either poor soft steel or good steel with a bad HT...it's worth getting it checked IMO...

It usualy takes a lighter touch than most are used to. Dan

Oh by the way, the hardness is 58-60 RC they might not believe you since INFI throws more of a small mist of sparks instead of a rain shower of sparks initiated by gods of the underworld. If you are still having trouble please PM me Dan

Picked up my blades from the shop this afternoon, and all I can say is WOW !!!! Best money I have spent in a long time. I have never had a knife as sharp as the S-5 LE and the Bird Dog LE are now.
The shop was really full of questions about the S-5 LE. The two guys working there were both in awe of it. Neither had heard of SYKC before, but both did know of Busse. They thought the INFI was really nice, but both really liked the Mudder handles on the S-5 and the Bird Dog.
Today is a good day !!!

Did you take it to the knife shop in the mall in Eugene ? Is great that they got their hands on INFI- SR101 and 154 at same time. I imagine they see their share of 154 ( ATS) - but the INFI must have been a pleasure for them. What kind of belts did they use ? I have never seen their sharpening setup-Thanks

I'm not sure what belts they used, but they have two different size belt sanders that I saw.

I'll stop in next time I am over and drop off a few to be sharpened just to see their equipment. Thanks for the heads up
