Gotta be around there.
I don't remember hearing or reading the hardness when it was released.

It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

The original SHBMs were in the 60-62 range, however the normal range for INFI is now 58-60. The recent exception is the BAD from Busse which was once again up in the 60-62 rc range.

I took mt S-5 LE into a shop to get it sharpened and they were wanting to know what the RC was..

My S-5 LE has never been sharp from the time I received it from the yard. I can get most blades pretty sharp using my Lansky setup, but not this one.

I will give the shop a call tomorrow and tell them it is right around the 60rc range.

sportsnut, were they using a belt sander, grinder, etc? Reason I ask is I let an olt time knife maker mess with Infi and he told me it was no good metal in that knife--won't hold an edge. What it was, I suspect, is that he had never messed with Infi before and the way he was used to sharpening did not lend itself to the Infi properties--ie, rolling.

INFI doesn't throw a bunch of sparks when you grind it, and it grinds fairly easily, like some inexpensive 420 steels. But it does hold an edge very well. INFI is "different".

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I saw the belt sander in the back of the shop and ask about it. The lady told me it was a water cooled German manufactured model that was around $3,500 new.
I also saw a couple of large leather strops hanging from the work bench.
I have never had them do any work before, but know lots of folks that have and they all rave about their work.

$7.00 for my Spyderco Renegade which is half serrated.
$6.00 for my S-5 LE
$5.00 for my Bird Dog LE

Send it in to SYKCO...it sounds like a bad heat treatment...Infi sharpens like a razor on a Lansky...only knives I ever had a problem with on taking an edge were either poor soft steel or good steel with a bad HT...it's worth getting it checked IMO...

I'll report back Thursday after I pick it up from the shop.
