RMD or HRLM

That's a tough question! I had an original Howling Rat years ago, which I traded for a Camp Tramp. I now have a couple of Ratmandus, which I like SLIGHTLY more than a Howling Rat. But, to each their own! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

how does the HRLM compare to the RC-3 size -wise?

I like the RMD more though. Slimmer.

RMD wins over the HRLM for me. The choil on the HRLM is too small to be functional. RMD is the BOMB!

I just sold a spyderco on BF and said I would trade for a few including the RMD, a guy offered his with RMD with a leather sheath...my jd smith and $200!

A RMD at store price is what the doctor ordered!

The HR is about the same size as a yardkeeper right?

(Micarta) HRLMs were $10 less than RMDs, at $128.95; I got a G10-handled one in shadow camo at the last Knob Creek for $138.95. Comparing RMDs with HRLMs is a lot like comparing Dumpster Mutts with Yard Keepers; they're both EDC-class knives, but are different in character. My personal preference is slightly in favor of the RMD, although the shorter-bladed HRLM is perhaps more practical to carry.

I found a post on BF where someone remembered RS IIs going for $68. Of course, it's been a long while since Shakers were available, so there might be some inflation.

Getting them at store prices,

I don't know about that. Besides the fact that they're both SR-101 and similar in size, they're both great in their own different ways.

When I first got into bussekin, I was first exposed to swamp rat and the HRLM, never got one but the return is tempting. Still want to check out a SAR or Rat hunter.

Lords and Ladies of the European Middle Ages made a complicated game of hunting. One branch of that game involves Terms of Venery. These are specific names for collection of animals. We still talk about a pride of lions and a pack of wolves. These are hangovers from those mostly archaic lists. They talked about a clash of bucks, a rascal of boys, a mute of hounds, and a rage of maidens (go figure). A group of our naked tailed friends was a mischief of rats.

This the prevalence of “mischief” in naming Swamp Rat blades.

Did you have or like the HRLM Bruce? I was surprised it wasn't for me- there's such love for that blade. I like my 2nd generation HR much more.

I don't check th Swamp very often. Someone be sure to let the yard know when they are up. I have a RMD, don't need a HRLM but I do want a Rat Shaker.

I've been lucky enough to go to a few shows and get to "hold" a lotta these blades.

I totally luv'd the RMD and HRLMs! the feel in my hand, the quality and balance.
I personally like the HRLMs a little better only because it was smaller and I have several RMD size blades, but that's just me.

Both are so sweet just one is a little bigger than the other, I'm glad they are doing this.

Swamp wardens sounds awesome to me - the rat shaker is a weird shape but the wardens are a lot more practical. I might have to get a second one to add slabs to.

If I remember right I think they lasted for 3 days last time. But I've seen knives sell out in minutes <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> when the pre-order system wasn't used. I know the pre-order system kills some of the excitement of a new release but I prefer the pre-order system.
