Super review.

I never considered the possibility that the new Reg might be constructed of 154CM. But that's entirely possible given the fact that it's through-hardened.

Guess we'll find out one of these days.

That is an idea. I would be for that too. I want a uncoated LE in 154CM too.

I think you're probably right. The odds of the new Reg being constructed of 154CM are slim. But it's not entirely out of the question.

Please God... I mean, Dan: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would sacrifice all of that wonderful toughness that is at the heart of the Regulator's spirit! Maybe, possibly on an LE version, but that's a big risk on a knife this size unless you REALLY want to keep it looking pretty and are using it someplace extremely humid &/or by the sea... But if preventing corrrosion is the goal, INFI seems to do pretty well and is plenty tough...Please please please no stainless! Just one opinion... Thanks!

We need a 5/16" (or thicker) SR-77 BOWIE!!! (Written back in early '07 -- Regulator Premonition?)

The Regulator just needs some steel to support the res-C guard and a 'world economic melt-down' friendly price and it'll be a winner! I like s7, but sr101 or even A2 wouldn't be a deal killer- but an unsupported guard certainly would be.
There you are, Paul. Good to see you again. I was wondering when you were going to chime in.

I mentioned in another thread that you suggested reinforcing the guard from the very moment Dan first announced the TT Reg. You certainly caught that quickly. And based on some of the pics I've seen from the Test Team, it appears your concern was warranted. Good catch.

I've never had a bad hand over-riding the guard incident as I've always picked my knives carefully... Synthetic composites can shatter or crack in cold weather and if the guard chunk drops off under thrusting pressure it's Band-Aid time, big time! All Yard knives (up to now) have had well supported guards, a fine tradition well worth keeping going! The new handle shape looks a great user, just add the guard support, just my 2 Cents!

(These days I read here more than I post!)

Since Dan's picture is of a coated blade, I think 154CM is out. I'd still prefer it not be so thick as the test team version, and suspect that the saber grind means that it will be thinner. I just looked at it, and I'm liking it more than my initial impression -- anyone else hoping to see more of that orange Res-C.

I'm happy as clam though, should have my first kukri tomorrow, can't wait to order a RMD and waiting to hear on the regulator! Good days in the world of steel!

Got my HI kukri yesturday- way cool! Dan has got to make one of these! Got one called a Tamang by Vim- much less curve. One knife bought and how many left???

Regulator? Regulator??

Kukris are cool and all, but some of the HI stuff is more than a little rough.

The dullest knife I have EVER bought was a Bonecutter from HI. It's also way, way thicker than it needs to be. It's kind of absurd, actually.

Here it is compared to a couple of Bussekin blades, in a spine shot:

L to R:

Killa Zilla, HH FSH, NMSFNO, SJTAC, Bonecutter, Regulator, SoD.

Notice how the Bonecutter is MUCH fatter than the 1/3 of an inch thick Regulator, and also way thicker than the Killa Zilla. Those of you who remember my Zilla review probably recall that one of my complaints was that it was thicker than it needed to be. Well, the Bonecutter dwarfs the zilla in the thickness category

I haven't handled many HI kuks, so I'm sure some of them come with better edges and better geometries, and honestly for how inexpensive they are, HI kuks make good project knives to modify as you see fit. They are definitely in a VERY different class from the Busse family blades, though

It's not crazy thick, but still thicker than my BR! Interesting balance on this...with it being first kukri I've even held, just interesting overall. I thought right after getting it-"Dan would make an insane kukri."

With Res C???? Forgettaboutit!!
