Here are some pics that highlight some of the changes that we made to the Regulator.

First up is the new saber grind on the Regulator. Our tests have shown that it makes for a much better chopper than the Regulator with a full-height grind! We have 4 different videos with 2 different choppers working on 2 different types of media and the test results are posted below.

We blasted the blades and then painted the flats on each blade in order to show the grinds !!!

The side by side cuts were made with the exact number of chops!

The saber grind also allows for heavier rounding of the spine without the risk of breaking the plunge line of the grind which can in turn cause a stress riser at that point which could lead to a catastrophic failure. The heavier rounding of the spine allows for heavier impacts by spreading the energy of that impact over the entire radius as opposed to spiking at the sharp corner. It will also greatly increase the life expectancy of your baton when splitting wood, etc. . .

Here's a close-up pic of the rounded spine. . . .

Concerns about the rigidity of the guard led to 2 changes. First the thickness of the guard was substantially increased as seen in the pic below.

Second, we now have the guard extending slightly over the ricasso which adds to the rigidity.

Extensive testing led to the conclusion that through-hardening supplied more than sufficient toughness in a blade of this thickness. Once we compared the high cost of differential treatment versus the performance gain, it was decided that the Yard's long standing goal of price to performance ratio could best be met by through hardening.

This knife was primarily designed for military use and a fairly large number have already found their way into the hands of America's elite fighting units. Military orders of this knife keep pouring in and it appears to be destined to be one of the Yard's most popular models.

With that in mind, we have are making a ton of these!!! This mass production approach has led to greatly decreased costs per unit. In other words, you Dogs should be very excited by the pricing!!!!

Very good looking! Any idea when more information on release date / pricing will happen?

I do like the new changes much better, not that I had an older regulator but this new one does look superior. I hope the mass production method will still allow it to maintain the quality I have heard so much of!

In that case, you might need to make room for THREE!

The rounded spine is a very nice touch. I love that treatment on some of my busses and am glad to see the idea being used in the yard too.

is the regulator still a full 1/3 of an inch thick, or has it been thinned a bit with the new saber grind?

what is the price!

We are working on Special pricing for the initial release that should bring big smiles to the Yard.

Those who whine or gripe will have their own Special pricing!

Delivery will be sporadic at first as the vast majority of these are heading out to military units.

If it stays a third of an inch thick, it will definitely serve the boys in uniform well with tha sabe grind. They should have saved the name "tank buster" for this baby - you could pry the armor right off of those suckers with a third of an inch of saber ground sr101
