Yep. I'd suggest that folks who are concerned that their batoning technique might damage the Regulator's guard either not buy a Regulator or not baton with it. If they insist on buying a Regulator anyway and damage the guard by batoning it, Dan said he'd repair it under warranty. So one way or the other, all the bases appear to be covered. And yes, Tom. I'm satisfied with that result. I just needed some time and some educating to get there is all. I actually tested the hell out of the Reg and am more than happy with it. I have just about all SY knives and have several of many models. I can truly say that the TT Reg is one of the finest I own . I took it out yesterday to tear apart a fat wood stump and also took my DFCG and DFLE. I beat the crap out of all three knives and the Reg did just fine . I suppose I must have used it corectly ? At the price I paid for my TTs a guy couldn't be more pleased . For the " intended use" it simply cannot be beat. It is one nice chunk of SR101 and I am looking forward to the new version. Bring em on- I'll take several-Thanks

The proof is in the testing. I am surprised at the change to a saber grind, but if it works better and makes the blade stronger, so be it. It looks great with that grind. This is one tough combat knife for sure.

... A.) Do you find yourself repeatedly beating on the front of your other Scrap Yard handles like the Dog Father or Dumpster Mutt? If not, why is that? What did the Regulator handle ever do to you?
B.) If so, how are you holding the knife while you're beating on it? If you are holding it in a full grip then you have other things to worry about, like getting your broken hand fixed!
C.) If you are repeatedly beating on your Regulator handle while batoning, you are part of a very small group of misfits who are either drunk, spastic, blind, or heavily confused. Why do I say this? Because there is no cutting edge under your handle and that means You Missed! It's kinda like smashing your thumb with a hammer while trying to hammer in a nail. Typically it is something that you only do once. If you do it repeatedly, then you may qualify for a T-Shirt from the handful of misfits that I outlined above. We certainly understand an occasional missed strike that slams into the handle, and Res-C will handle that just fine, but repeated blows that ultimately destroy your handle means that you have other issues to deal with.
D.) Do you really think that we are going to put a metal guard in front of the handle to protect it from the aforementioned group of misfits? Really? How big would that guard need to be? Would it have to curve backward over the back of the handle like a reversed or upside down D-Guard? That should prove to be challenging to hold onto, but hey, at least your handle would be safe from batoning and your hand would have a chance to heal before you decide to tenderize it again.
F.) Do we need to put warning stickers on the Res-C handles that state something like, "If you hit this sticker, you missed!" or "Beating on the cushioned, rubber part of the knife may lead to a bounce-back effect that could knock you out!" Suddenly, the simple act of batoning turns into a real survival situation while a team of surgeons works to free the ball peen hammer from your forehead! . . .
So please, do all of us here at Scrap Yard Central Command a favor, if you are unable to hit the proper part of the Regulator blade on a regular basis while batoning, then either don't baton or buy a different model that will fit your needs. Preferably an all steel skeleton model with an 18 inch long handle that features double D-Guards on top and bottom.
Best of luck
This post has made my head hurt and I will now be guzzling Bourbon at the speed of light.
Dan Hahaha. This has been my thinking throughout the whole silly nonsense about the guard. But then, I'm off my medication.

Batoning? I don't care about that in the least....but, maybe some of you guys could speculate about how the changes will affect the new Regulator's ability to slice through a car hood or angle iron....you just never know when that ability would come in handy. For example, say you were on a hundred mile hike and came across a junkyard and felt the need to dismember a Buick.

Actually, dd, if you want to dismember a Buick, batoning is the best way to do it. Chopping metal is more likely to torque the blade and tear chunks out of the edge, but you can go through some pretty serious stuff with a big knife and a deadblow mallet with minimal damage to the knife.

Thanks, bld. We are like a bunch of expectant fathers; time and humor will get us all through this awkward waiting. I like the new design and can't wait to get a couple of them to play with. One of mine will be satin polished and parked, with a paracord-wrapped handle. I'm looking forward to hearing everyones ideas.

Did anyone notice that the handle on the "old style" Regulator Dan used in this post was Tanker Grey? That makes four different handle colors I've seen so far. Black, Tan, Green and Tanker Grey.

If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer.
