Well I finally was able to pick up my new Muk today. My first Scrap Yarder. I think I'm going to love it. I posted earlier about my note from the PO about the package being hazardous with knife blade protruding from box. I got an earful from the post office and assured them I would give it back to the shipper. Heres some pics showing how not to ship a knife.

Wow a ziplock bag as packing material! At least wrap some newspaper around it.

That is one sharp knife <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />. It appears it was trying to escape the box so it would be used <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />. You are going to LOVE the MUK.Nice Score <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I always save the cardboard sleeves for exactly that reason - I've even shipped in soft sided envelopes, and had no problems, because the knife is wrapped well enough that there's no chance of poking through.

But it's worth an earful from the post office to get you a Muk - sweet, sweet blade <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Yikes, looks like someone coulda lost a fingie.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust.

Great snag on the MUK. I can't believe someone would ship a knife without packing it up. Not that the knife would get damaged but consideration that loosing a finger or getting cut is not something I would want to happen to me.

The problem I have with the USPS on this issue is that you caught grief over something you didn't do. They'd do better to send a nasty-gram to the shipper than to talk to you. I'm also sort of surprised that they didn't open/inspect the package and tape a wad of paper over the knife tip; still, it's good that you got your knife and that nobody was hurt.

BTW: how hard does one have to fling a package to get a Muk blade to slice through the box like that?

That's an interesting question - it's not exactly a natural stabbing tip, is it? I would think it would take a fair bit of chucking that box around to get the tip to slice through like that.

The funny thing is that the box didn't show signs of abuse, all the ends and corners were square. I sent the shipper notification through ebay about the problem but I don't have his personal email.

Yikes! There is ZERO excuse for shipping a knife like that. Gives the knife community a bad mark for being stupid.
