If you're like me, and the only reason you go to Knob Creek is to buy knives at the Busse table, then (at the risk of increasing competition) your "best" plan (as long as the Busse crew does it) is to go to the motel on the night before Knob Creek starts. If you want to attend the show too, that's great - stay the night and go - but the "first come" selection of steel (and Amy's cheesecake) happens that night at the motel.

Last Fall, I brought a bottle of 10-yo Rip Van Winkle, which almost no one was interested in -- I ended up taking more than 3/4 of it back home with me. This year, I think I'll probably bring some plastic cups/forks and paper plates -- those were in much higher demand than booze (at least until Garth sent someone out on a run).

I'm not saying that the show isn't fun, although after my first it became sort of "same old" to me. Last time, I didn't even sit down in the bleachers to watch the firing line. The final day's night shoot would probably be a different story, but as I said, my target was the Busse booth, so I always came on Friday mornings and was in-place waiting for the show to open.

I think I'll be bringing some picnic gear instead. I brought the bottle last time, expecting it to go over much better than it did. My intent was to leave it, but decided not to due to the underwhelming response.

In fairness to the crew, they had just made a long trip and set up immediately (before they'd even had a chance to settle in their own gear). They were also trying to be good hosts and since they didn't know everyone who showed up, they needed to keep an eye on their knives to make sure nothing got "lost" in two rooms and hallway filled with fairly dynamic knife grabbers (they weren't obvious about it, but I noticed that someone was usually standing at the intersection where they had a clear sight-line). They were also looking at a fairly early morning, so drinking wasn't high on their priority list.

I live local, so I couldn't drink much because I was driving home. The only ones who reasonably could were folks who were staying at the motel. Overall, plates for the pizzas Garth ordered and plates/forks for cheesecake, and cups & 2-liters of soft drinks seemed much more order of the day.

You should fly out for Blade Atlanta, 3 days of knives, booze, friends, more knives and more booze

Blade is a much bigger show and they have the oink-ficial induction dinners, but the Busse crew always brings it to Knob Creek too, and twice a year. I'm just saying... For folks who collect Bussekin knives, the Louisville area is a great place to live.
