MASSIVE avalanche today in the Revelstoke BC Canada area. 4 dead so far, many more expected as the RCMP/SAR figure out the snowmobile to rider ratio. this area was so dangerous that SPECTATORS were wearing avalanche beacons!!!! http://www.theprovince.com/news/Many+kil...0774/story.html <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I would say the reason most spectators had beacons is because they were snowmobilers. Its a common item for anyone in the backcountry because of avalanches.
Pretty sad that there was an Avalanche. I'm not sure what if anything they do for AV prevention there.
