Thank you for the comparison, Kraz. Since I have both knives on order it was of particular interest to me. After having to swing the DF as a machete Sunday, I have decided to carry a lighter, thinner big blade for machete work and the DM, HRLM, or S6 for heavy duty back up for my swamp trips. Dog Father will be one of my yard choppers. Do you think the HRLM is rugged enough to do what you did with the DM?
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks guys. The difference in the blade thickness is just, like,...wow. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />
Jason - I have a Gen 2 Howler with the sharpened swedge. If I get a chance this afternoon I'll try to do a couple quick comparo shots.
Vic - The Howler is plenty tough, I would have no worries there. For the chopping I did yesterday the shorter Howler blade would have made it tough to get as much swinging leverage as I was getting with the Mutt. Ditto for the advantage of the thicker spine in chopping. You may like the size of the HRLM handles more than the Mutt. The Mutt handles are smaller and thinner. Also, the HRLM seems like it would make the slightly better skinner of the two, because of the additional belly of the HRLM blade.

for some reason, the new howling rat does not do it for me. i just do not dig the handle. That is also one of the reasons I am avoiding the other two SW releases, right now. I prefer a more fluid, dynamic handle.

I guess any of those 4"-6" knives will do for backup, along with a jungle knife or machete. I'll just have to wait and see which one I prefer for carry.

Fantastic pictures Lew, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Those really do show the stout flavor of that Mutt. Such a robust little pry bar! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> Remember Dans lateral strength test for the Dog Father? Stopped only because the breaker bar hit the floor! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> I'll bet this tiny five incher would take a whole lot of wrenching to get it to even flex!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Thick to length ratio is off the chart! What a great addition this blade will make in everyones collection. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> Not much of a tomato slicer, but I have that covered already. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
Peace.

The Mutt is, without a doubt, the stoutest knife I own.
And nice avatar picture PoP! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />
I'm going to pack your knife in just a few minutes. I made you a fluorescent orange Chris Reeve style lanyard just like all the cool kids have. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Woa!!! the Mutt is quite a bit SMALLER than i thought!!
for some weird reason i was under the impression it'd be slightly smaller than S6-size! But posing with that HRLM Really puts the size into perspective! Thanks Kraz!
So now i'm thinkin.. the Mutt must use the "small" Busse Basic handle. iirc someone once said the Basic handles came in 3 different sizes?
Kraz.. would you have a Handle comparison shot of Mutt with say.. DF or S6?
this changes all of my Mutt fantasies! now i can't wait to GET it!!! Thanks Kraz! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
btw.. sorry for crapping on your other Mutt pics thread bro..
