Hello there Evil Spock. Some of us have a Waki but would love a Res-C handled sword too! I do agree on the axe, I would love one.

Welcome to the Yard Evil Spock, love the name.

If you have a Regulator you don't need anything else. Now want is a different story.

This bad boy made from 1/4" thick 154 CM with the same choil style as the Mud Puppy would be nice.
Swapping the black Mudder grip for an orange Mudder grip wouldn't hurt either.

Ok, brain dead. What IS this knife? 3/16 inch would be fine, but take the edge all the way to the plunge line and bring the choil all the way back to the mudder grip. Oh and make the blade 3 1/2 inch TOTAL LENGTH! I'd buy about 100 of them (if I had the money) <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I talked to both Dan and Jerry about kukris at Blade. It would be very expensive to produce a kukri using the modern manufacturing methods that are used at Busse. The stock would have to be really wide, and you would end up grinding most of that fine steel away. A less radical shape than the traditional hand forged kukri could be done and still keep the price reasonable. Maybe more of a bolo or something. If you'll notice even the Killa Zilla kukri is much less radical in shape than most traditional kukris. And even that one cost a lot to make. I just thought I'd share that with the Yard. I like kukris, too. But we don't want it to cost too much. That would defeat the purpose of SY knives, to offer maximum performance at affordable prices.

You’re right, Horn Dog. If you start with a 3 ˝” wide strip and cut a Kukri out of it, you will waste plenty of steel.

Is that the only option? Can Dan get SR-77 (or some other Busse kin steel) in sheets rather than strips? A foundry that can make custom steels to order should be able to roll out sheets of metal as readily as strips.

Take a sheet 18” long by 4’ wide. Lay out a row of Kuks nested close together. 18” overall length, and as many as you can crowd onto your 4’ sheet of steel. Cut out each blade by laser or water jet. I bet you would lose far less waste steel that way. You could even design the shape of the knife to minimize waste and maximize steel in the knife.

You’d need small batches of test blades to see how well a given Kukri shape works. Those would be more expensive than the knives cut out of sheet steel. But once you’re into the mass production stage the price would come down.

Once you have the basic shape cut out, grind and heat treat as usual.

Here's what I want...

Basically a Modified Ratchet. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

But a DF XL (12 or 13 inch blade)... or Necker Skelly would be cool too!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

SR77 or SR 101 would work for the DFXL, and 154 for the Necker. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Rainwalker, can we have some dimensions on that thing? If it’s as small as it looks, it would have to be made of some thick stock to work as a chopper.

I'd like something 12"-16", not as tall as usual. light and fast like the BRKT golok, but with a useable point and res-c

That would be sweet! 2-3" longer than the BRKT golok with upswept tip- oh yeah! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

The Mountain Cur !

I'd like to see a wide bladed knife that could be used for a wide variety of tasks around a campsite. It would have a 5" long satin finished blade( satin because one use would be for food prep)with a handle around 4 1/2" long shaped very similar to the Ratmandu but with thicker Micarta slabs.
The blade would be a drop point design that is about 2" wide at it's widest point and similar in shape to a Nessmuk pattern. The steel would be 3/16" SR101 or INFI so it has great edge retention.
With it's wide, thin blade it would excel at slicing food stuff around camp but still plenty tough for chopping and shaping wood.
The edge would be convexed for slicing ability and toughness. There would be no choil with the blade merging flawlessly into the handle in a similar way to the SAR 5.
This knife would evoke images of grizzled mountain men of days gone by with their muzzle loaders over the shoulders and their knives hanging at their hips, the kind of men who lived in the mountains because it was their way of life and not a break from their 9 to 5 jobs!
I can see this knife stuck in a stump with flames from a camp fire reflecting off the shiny steel as people sip Bourbon and tell each other of their past outdoor adventures under a blanket of stars !

This knife will prove to all the naysayer's that the Busse/kin company doesn't just make sharpened prybars, that they also make real working blades for those that spend a lot of time actually out there using them for real outdoor tasks !!!
