Hello! Just recieved a nice new all brown (yep, muddy blade and brown mudders! Excellent!) scrapper 5 today. I love the feel of the knife though I'm not 100% sure about the mudders yet.

I think however that my feel for the knife would be better if the choil was improved. I would like to deepen it. Have any of you done a choil mod on a S5? Thanks!

Thanks. That was my first.

I have done a second one. I went ahead and removed the Res-C to get a full satin polish properly on the Ricasso on the second one.

Most of the mods on the second one are similar to what I did on the first. However, I dropped the point on the first a bit and just slightly shallowed out the edges belly. On the second, I left the factory blade shape and just reprofiled the edge, spine, choil and finish.

The pics are prior to the Flared tube being put back on. I had somebody else flare the tube back on as I don't have a proper vice to flare the tube as it should be done - Or I would have done mine properly and a few others properly as well.

Unfortunately, the second isn't mine. The second ones end finish is a bit nicer than mine since I removed the Res-C to get the finish properly done. Plus, I purchased some better finishing belts prior to the second one.

This is a SHARP cutting tool. - I LOVE SR-101!

Here's mine that I did a while back; the choil shape is a bit different:

A dremel w/ 60 grit drum, 120 grit drum, 240 grit drum, and a little elbow grease and sheet sandpaper (400 grit and 1500 grit), then some Mother's Billet metal polish to finish.

Very nice, thank you. I don't believe I have that many drums for my dremel, mine is the very basic kit for stuff around the house.

you can buy dremel attachments for like $1 at walmart.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust.

That's the plan, or maybe send it off to someone to make it all fancy and satin-y. Though that'll be after I scuff this muddy up real good

Thanks Mike.

Your choil is very nice as well and very functional. I just angled mine a bit for a slightly different effect. Either is good.
