My brother, who is a law enforcement officer called and shared this story with me so I thought I would share it here with you. I know many of you are gun owners.

This happened in a Publix in Tarpon Springs, FL and my brother was not involved although two friends/co-workers were.

A 41 year old woman was fired from Publix and she later returned to the store with her 9mm, shot the guy that fired her several times as he sat in his vehicle in the parking lot, then went inside to hunt down more employees. My brother’s sergeant and another officer responded and found her inside walking down the isles looking for employees to shoot – she fired shots at the officers as soon as she saw them and hit the one officer in his gun belt (bullet went through his pepper spray canister but he was not injured) – The sergeant (also a firearms instructor) fired back and hit her 4 times in the chest with his .40 S&W. The surprising part is that she lived. She is in stable condition in the hospital. Looks like even 4 shots with a .40S&W may not be enough to kill…although it did stop the fight and save lives. My brother who currently carries a .40 S&W (Glock 23) is contemplating a move to the .45 I Just thought you might find this interesting.

I'm not knocking the .40 cal - I just find it amazing what some people can survive. And then there are the folks that get shot in the armpit with a .25 and the projectile ricochets off of bone and hits their heart and kills them. Crazy. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Stopping the attacker is the goal, whether they die or not is inconsequential.

Yup.I carry a KelTek P32 just because it is so small and fits in a pocket so well.I don't worry about killing just stopping.Not that there's anything wrong with that.(killing scumbags)I sure wouldn't want to be shot with it.I'd feel confident carrying a 22LR.

People many times scoff at others carrying "mouseguns". Yes, there is some basis of fact to not doing this, ref Knotslips post. AND, as he said, some are killed by a 22 or 25. SOMETIMES a "mousegun" is the only thing folks have to carry. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE. Work on speed drills, getting the weapon out and firing RAPIDLY at a VERY vulnerable target, the face/head or believe it or not, the groin! AS stated, the point of shooting is TO STOP THE THREAT, even if all that is needed is to "scare them off", the goal has been accomplished.

My 2cents, and I AM NOT an expert. Just had acadamy training and worked as an active duty police offier for 3 years and reserve for a couple more.

I could carry my .45,but Hate to wear a belt,and don't want to dress to conceal.The .32 fits in my back pocket like a wallet with the pocket holster,and is light enough to carry in a coat pocket with out weighting it down so the one side droops down.The pocket holster has silicon/rubber strips so it stays in the pocket when I draw the .32.
And like "they" say,carry what your comfortable with,just carry & be ready.

I have a beretta tomcat that I carry in my front pocket. Yes, it's a little thick but I can hit with it and can rapid fire it until slide lock. Close range is what it is for, and close range is USUALLY the only time your are justified. I Like my .32.

The way I look at a "mouse gun" is it is better than nothing. I was once told by a OHP that if he was relying on a mouse gun he was going to be on the ground with the perp and that there are a few holes in the head for the bullet to find its way through. I am not an expert on training or human targets/perps but I have hunted more than enough to know that an animal doesn't always know when to die--and we are animals too.

Jeff - that is SO true! I have killed possums that required four shots - good hits too! - from my .40 S&W. I have also killed rabbits with my son's Daisy PowerLine BB gun! I won't get into stories of grizzlies that had their hearts shot out but still charged! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> (not by me). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> And that's not taking into account the jerks that are jacked up on drugs! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />
