Those will also work, The mink is natural and the saddle soap contains bees wax, they both are probably easier to come by, but the bees wax is cheap...

fastcamo, good to know. I'd like to seal my RMD handles.

How quick does the linseed oil dry out?

It depends of the temperature all around. Sometime it will become sticky on the surface and it will be difficult to remove. Personaly I put a good coat of linseed oil, I let it 10 minutes and then I remove the excess. The oil will become hard into the micarta between 1 night and 2 or 3 days.

If you polish your canvas micarta with Superfine Woolsteel ("0000") it will help to have a regular color.

Boiled linseed oil is darker and will become harder (so it seals better).

Sumo - I always mix one little bottle of Birchwood Casey "Tru-Oil" with a can of Linseed...it helps the LS cure.

I've used this mixture on military rifle stocks for two decades with really nice results. The Tru-Oil adds a slight "sheen" to the wood....very nice <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Canvas micarta or linen micarta is made up layers upon layers of the material
with resin in between they compressed. Dont see any kind of liquid being
able to penetrate the material. Now when it touches the surface it does change
colors.. I just spray my knives with Remington gun oil when iam done.
