Today I was cleaning up the big bad Regulator. What an overbuilt monster combat bowie. I just can't get over how beefy that blade is. And the Regulator handle is really roomy even for my large hands, cushy, too. Since the old Kalamazoo was just sitting there, covered in pine pollen, I figured it was time to shake off the dust and work the Regulator edge a bit. I didn't want to go too thin and grind off the coating, just thin the edge a little for improved slicing. I just love SR101 (52100) steel. It takes a really sharp edge and holds it very well. I set the new angle with 40 grit and then took it on down to 180 grit and then 15 micron. I finished with the leather strop. Wow will this baby cut.

I think Dan chose a great steel for this bowie. SR101 rocks! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks. I have done prettier work, but on a black combat knife, I was just going for performance. The Regulator is a the perfect SHTF knife, IMO. It's all business.

How do you get an edge like that from a belt sander?? I think I'd be a little nervous.

Great looking edge there HD. I would say that your work improved the Reg edge by 100%.

Horn Dog and I both use one of these for reprofiling and sharpening our knives, although I will admit that he has far more experience than I do. The belt is only 1" wide, and depending upon the steel, quenching the knife periodically is highly recommended.

BTW, very nice edge HD. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Ill post pics in a few days!
