I actually have a throwing knife range set up in my basement. I threw the SS4 once and the Res C handle hit and bounced back like a superball straight for my face.

Do you have cement floors? I’d be worried about a deflection and messing up the tip when it hit the floor. Not with Rats or Mutts probably, but cheaper throwing knives. That M6 coming back at my head scared me too. Need to get a riot mask and some protective gear when throwing. Hmmm, there’s a riot shield in my basement from Knob Creek. That would work too. I have a fireman helmet with a plastic impact face shield too. I found it at a Goodwill for $3!

I have not tried it however I don't think that I will. I usually throw my machetes with good and bad results.

Next time you are in Africa, and you come up behind tourists, drag your machete on the ground to make a grating noise.......plenty of room at the Hotel Rwanda!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

I think I'd be more worried about the damage the DM would do to the concrete floor...

For a safer target try plywood without a stiff backing. Hang it by ropes, if a piece is large enough then set the support low and the plywood will bend and absorb a lot of impact, reducing bounce from the knife. Plywood won't last long though.

Welcome to the Yard! Great people and great knives here - hope you stay around and chat with us! I don't really have enough room to be hanging plywood in my apartment (and I'd hate to miss and stab one of my kids!!!), but I'll remember that for when I get a big enough place!

Anyways, welcome to the Scrapyard community, better known as THE YARD!!

I have a bunch of old hollow core inside doors that I lean up against the wall.
I have foam padding around the target on the floor but occasionally I get a flyer that hits the cement. I have one of the old good Carbon V tru flight throwers that can handle dozens of tip first hits into concrete. I just finished fixing up the dings in that old knife and redoing the edge and replacing the wrap with some coyote 550 wrapped Strider style. I even made a nylon sheath and it is like getting a new knife. It turned out so well that I have intended to take some pics of it for a while.

Thanks for the welcome! I look forward to getting a scrapper6 to go with my Dogfather some day. I'll also grind a penetrator tip on the DF for better sticking on throws.
