Good morning Saint!!! How's the car hunt going? Sorry I didn't get to this sooner K. I was on my way out when I sent my last one. The hunt is the easy part. Funds are tricky.

How's it going everybody? I'm new to this, so correct me if I'm wrong, but these death chats are for people to rack up their post count, right?

Yes, you can talk about whatever (respectfully and following the general rules and remembering that this is a family forum, of course!)
  So have fun!

As long as it's "family friendly" - have at it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Ok, random question. Something I have been thinking about for a little while now. I have never been hiking or actually camping before. I am probably going to go on a couple of day trips pretty soon. I mostly wear steel toe boots all day everyday. But lately I have been wearing tennis shoes. Which would be better for hiking?

The tennis shoes would be better than steel toe boots. If you are day hiking and not carrying a heavy load a good pair of sneakers is just fine.
If you plan on going on longer trips in wet environments over a couple of days with a heavier pack then a good pair of waterproof-breathable hiking boots would be a smart investment.
But try it out with what you have first to see if you like hiking before you spend money and discover you really hate it! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Smart man!
I'm taking some scouts on a week long trip in the Uintas this August. Some of them have very little to no backpacking experience. We are going on several smaller trips to prepare them beforehand.
As a good friend of mine once said "A 50-Miler is NOT the time to find out you don't like backpacking."
