Stock is kind of rough, blueing worn off the barrel near the muzzle, but it shoots like a dream and has one of the best triggers I've ever pulled. It's too much gun for where I hunt, (think 75 yard shots) but I couldn't pass the deal up.

Well unless the Sheriff changes his mind, it will be a no go! Can't blame him though, commissioners won't let him use part timers much, budget crunch and all that.

yeah the 06 is a good round, but personally I just like the shorter action of the .308. Had an ought six in Idaho, but really only bought it cause it was cheaper than the 308 I was lookin at. I've got a Remmy 700 in 06, wouldn't trade it for anything. I got it at a pawn shop for $200, scope included. I had an ADL in '06 Spr, but let it loose a while back. I know, I regret it now. The one my brother got is an late 70's with a wood stock. When he got it I stripped it out of the stock and cleaned it up, adjusted the trigger, and put a Redfield 4-12x40mm scope on it. The rifle shoots real well at 100 yds, hope to stretch it out some time.

I've carried it for 12-13 years, and taken several deer with it. Thinking of a new scope this year, but I don't get worried if I scratch it up or anything, and that's definately a bonus hunting in thickets of laurels and briars.

rth, If you reload or know someone who does, you could try some reduced loads. Oh, the kick doesn't bother me. Recoil never has, I just meant the gun is more suited for 150-200 yd shots than the short shots I get here.

Nice thing about a mechanical sound rifle that has some wear is that you don't mind using it especially when you get into it at that price.

Hehe, I would rather have a used firearm than a brand new shiny unblemished one. That way I don't mind getting it even more scratched up.

No, mine had a synthetic stock. The one my brother got is from a friend of mine that had it since it was new.
