Bill: I have an Ontario rat 3 and the handle is a little small I feel, but the knife overall is nice and feels good to me IF I place my index finger in the choil. Otherwise the handle seems a little small and I have medium hands. i hope that helps you. That is what swayed me to the -4, a little larger grip. I have med sized hands, and the -3 was just a little too small for me

don't have a DM Bill, but the handle is shorter than the one on the S5. I have heard good reviews on their SERE blade.

The ESEE-5, their SERE knife, is literally a sharpened prybar. Very tough knife, possibly the next ESEE that I get.

I am looking for an edc and the rc3 may be a little better then the hess or rc4.
I will try to handle both and see what I think

I will try to handle both and see what I think For EDC, the -3 or the HEST will probably be the way to go. Similiar size, but the HEST is a little thicker blade and has some extras like a bottle opener built into the blade.

rth, are you saying the hest the same overall size as the rat-3,or really close? Fairly close overall size. The HEST is a thicker blade, and you can take the scales off and carry it bare also. It feels really good in my hand, the extra little bit of heft makes it feel much more substantial without being a bigger knife.
