I have a dilemma, with my gf's name.
Just like the way that I go by the name "Mike", she has a nickname which is the normal name she's used to being called, all the time.
She's from another country, and English is not her native language, so she doesn't really experience the associations that Americans have with her nickname.
Her full name is pronounced "Hossanna", and the nickname she goes by shortens "Hossanna" to just the first syllable.
I just can't bring myself to call her that. As we're starting to get more involved, I really need to come up with another nickname to call her. I take it Anna or Anne is out? She's used to being called by the first syllable of "Hossanna", and that's what she wants to be called. But I just can't. Imagine me calling her over to me, in a crowded public place! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> Wow that is tough

She's Brazilian. Her parents were Italian, and that is the heritage of her name. From Brazil, her native language is Portuguese. Hmm, that does make it a little difficult with Port and Italian being a little different.

I think I need to have some very flattering, affectionate nickname for her, that she can't object to, which I can call her, all the time. Something like "Love" or "Gorgeous".
