I think I know what you mean now. I need the top hole to put a bolt through to squeeze the to bars against the tang so they will hold the muzzle ring.guard against the bottom of the blade tightly. I want to be able to thrust my bayonet into a car door while it is attached the my rifle and have nothing give except the door

let me think how to say this. Oh and No I don't think 1/8 inch holes would make much difference either

It will just be one extra hole, since I am going to use the one that is already there. And the part of the tang I am going to put it in is pretty wide, much wider than where the thong is.

yeah, I think you got it. Use the bolts to squeese the two metal plates against the tang, one bolt on the top side of the tang and one on the bottom of the tang and use the thong hole to hold the bars from sliding front to back.
  Is that better to understand?

So, I have been sitting here playing with my new Dremel. I now have a Euro cut in half and another one that is probably the shiniest coin in Europe.

I took the safety course at the base machine shop yesterday. Now I can use all the tools there. It is actually a pretty well stocked shop. I mostly just need the vice and drill press. They don't have carbide bits, but the local hardware store sells them.
