The weather got down to freezing this weekend, which called for an impromptu camping trip. I haven't received my DM's yet, and so wasn't able to take them or the DF I have worked a trade for, but thought I'd post pics anyway. The knife I did take was my Walmart Winchester, which I'll refer to as the POS for the rest of the post.

The POS against a pretty soft log

Here are some random pics of the creek

The Lounge area

The media room. If you look on top of the cooler, you'll notice a red coozy. It's holding my 6th course of a 12 course breakfast. Extravegant, I know. And yes, I always pack all my trash out.

My camping bud. Needs his rest. Former topside sailor. Nuff said.

Me stacking wood for Sat night. There's an old saying "indian builds small fire and sits close, white man builds big fire for all the world to see". My Irish wins out over my cherokee everytime. I hope I have enough wood.

This is me thinking about throwing my POS into the fire

Man, I hope I get my DM and DF soon!!

Freezing or not, looks like fun to me Arkie. Thanks for the nice pix. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I went out for a trip this weekend too. Looks like you had a good time. I could not take any SY material either because I did not have time to make a DM sheath before my trip.

Nothing wrong with a nice big fire.

The freezing is one of the reasons I like going. No mosquitos, no gnats, no snakes, and most importantly, no people.

Nice pics Arkie - looks like you had a great time. I like your approach to having enough wood for a good fire! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Tom

That is why I usually camp in the swamps at Winter. Except for the people part. People hunt deer and hogs in Winter. Only a few lunatics like me go there in Summer.

Hey Arkie,

When you get your DF you will really be able to gather and prepare wood for a real fire!

You aren't kidding, bro. After hearing about it and seeing the pics, I can't hardly wait. I came across a couple of tough pine knots that I ended up using a bow saw on, but would much rather have had the DF. One of the knots was like sawing through concrete it had so much sap in it. The DF would have chowed down!

A solid strategy
