He is in an Army uniform. There's always been a soldier in the Village People. But the person in the image Skunk posted is in a Marine Uniform.

In terms of the Vellage people's symbolism, it kind of makes sense that they'd switch from Army to Marine. Perhaps less archetypal, but more subversive. And their act was largely about playful subversion of popular masculine archetypes.
Or so it seems to me.
