I just heard something stupid. It seems that Arizona is going to allow the children of illegal aliens to attend school, IF they pay tuition! IF they're ILLEGAL, what are they still doing in the country?
That is a step forward though. In Oklahoma the state is required to educate all children..................and if they are children here illegally or have illegal parents not paying taxes then they are getting a true free education. I would venture to say a lot of money is spent on educating illegal students throughout the country.

I need to coat the metal with something. I stripped the tang of the reg and exposed the metal and the steel bar I am using is naked. Think Krylon will do. It won't be visible since I am going to wrap the handle with 550 cord. I ordered camo cord Monday.

I like using automotive header paint--it is a 500 or 100 degree temp that can be got at AutoZone. After the metal is prepared I will heat the parts, and then spray the paint, then hang the parts to be baked in an oven or out in the hot Oklahoma sun. Not sure if you can get the paint over in Germany but there might be something even better due to different EPA regs than what we have in the states.

Thanks. Sounds like the route to go. Thankfully my German buddy is coming to the house this weekend for a BBQ. I will have to drag him to the hardware store as a translator.

The stuff I like is called Duplicolor but not sure if it is available there.
Clean the metal, and prep it by either bead/sand blasting or scuffing the surface up, clean again with MEK/acetone, heat, spray, and then bake in oven or in the sun. I have used it on knives, guns, tools, etc. Nice thing is it wear better than standard paint because it has ceramic properties.

If you take a step up from the hardware store paints...take a look at the gun-finishing paints that are out. They harden very well and take serious abuse.

DuraCoat @ http://www.lauerweaponry.com/
GunCoat @ Brownells (oven cure): http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=1150/Product/GUN_KOTE_trade__OVEN_CURE__GUN_FINISH
CeraKote if you like the Ceramics @ http://www.nicindustries.com/cerakote.php

Just a few for thoughts.

I've actually seriously considered (not yet priced) stripping a few of my knives and sending them to BirdSong for their Black-T finish. One of the best: http://www.black-t.com/

BTW...the GunKote from Brownells is a really good solution over the hardware store...the only challenge is curing it. However, on a "knife sized object", just stick it in your oven

Wow, it has been awhile since I've visited County COMM...they have some really cool stuff. My favorite is the Spork I have a few of those in my BOB.

Also, for you gun lovers....take a look at their Norton's UCS....they work fantastic.

And don't forget the GP-4L...I have a few of those laying around as well. Great for emergency situations.

I just bought a can of Dupli Color at the German hardware store. Thanks for the advice. I'm sure it will work fine. It will be under a cord wrap and likely won't see much abuse. I left the crinkle coat on the blade.

I would have mentioned some of the gun-paint but was not sure if it is available in Germany without too much hassle. Looking forward to seeing the pics of progress and finished product. Is the bayonet for a M16, and if so is it a M7, M9, or the Marine specific OKC made one?
