I always wished I had joined up when I could have, but I don't think I would have enjoyed basic back then. Or now even, come to think of it. I was too busy being a hippie party animal back when I was in my teens and early twenties. I joined at 28 and thought boot camp was hilarious and entertaining at times, but I wouldn't go as far as saying that I enjoyed it.

Boot camp wasn't bad. But I was an athlete and a farm boy. We got to eat and fight so I was happy. Di's couldn't outrun me but they sure as heck smoked me on the quad.

Why I remember this one time I was putting a bunch of papers together getting ready to staple them and I got such a back paper cut. I'm here to tell you, <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />it ALMOST started bleeding! I had to wait in the emergency room for like 15 minutes, in such GREAT pain. Glad the morphine finally started kicking in! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

Dad loved boot camp, he said it was a lot like the Full Metal Jacket boot camp scenes. He excelled in the Pugel stick fights, till his DI about took his head off LOL. Dad still says the biggest mistake he ever made was leaving the Army. He wanted to retire from the service, but left because of the family.

We used to beat the snot out of the marines stationed on our base on a regular basis. They didn't really understand when to stop talking smack. And didn't really understand what unit they were popping off to. Or they really were crazy. I believe the majority of the Marines really are crazy to an extent. The ones that join right out of high school with fresh minds perfect for brain washing, yeah those. Boot camp for the Marines is a total, "You are becoming invincible" experience.

I have never been an athlete. Oh I played baseball, basket ball and stuff, but I was always heavy. The hardest part of basic for me was the tearing down of your personality so they could rebuild it. BUT I knew it was gonna happen. My recruiter told me everything to expect and didn't hold anything back so I guess I kinda sorta had a headstart on some of the other folks.

I loved a war time army. I enjoyed being in the field, but I hated being garrison stateside. Got out and started this job.
