It helps me from having to use the standard military etiquette when speaking to a superior, and they can't say something then say, "don't print that sergeant."

For them, well, it is really hard to intimidate a four star general.

I meant for you. I know the first time I interviewed a high ranking official, I was sweating bullets. She was the Lt Governor at the time, now she's the Governor. Shoot, I work for the sheriff here and I still get uneasy sometimes when he wants to "chat."

I do use my first and last name, and you are right. It is a great ice breaker. I used to get nervous about interviewing the big dogs, but I have been at it for 6 years and it is second nature now.
