I enlisted in 2007, straight into the Army Reserves, realized I'm not going to school and I'm just wasting time, had the deployment carrot dangled a few times, but I'm getting tired of that mystery Colonel pulling the plug every time we mob, so I'm pushing a packet to go Active and become an MP. 4 years ahead of me at least, but it oughtta be cake. 2 years total service last month.

US Army late 80s early 90sI was technically 11B1P but spent most of my time in the barn.
I was stationed in Ft. Myer, Va. In The Old Guard working on horseback in Arlington cemetary. All the time Uncle Sam spent teaching me how to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft really paid off whe I started to get thrown by those barn sour nags.
The work sometimes sucked and the horses weren't always cooperative
BUT and this is a huge BUT, the Job was the most humbling honor I have ever had bestowed on me. To escort the fallen to their final resting place not only for the familys sake
but mostly for the sake of the guy you are carrying. It was about respect and honor for his sacrifice. It's a life changing experience and I'm proud to have done it.

Welcome, B/E and thanks for joining the thread. It's nice to see how many of us have put time in.
Any other members who are currently serving who have gone or are going to Afghan??

US Army, 1999-2007. 7 years as an infantry scout / forward observer, two of those I spent in the sniper slot in our platoon (shooter, not spotter). Last year of my enlistment I was a firefighter/EMT. Some of my time was National Guard / Reserve style, some of it was Active duty/deployed. Now currently a firefighter EMT for the city. | | |

I just put in my volunteer notice with HRC to see if they won't send me out somewhere. I've volunteered before, but apparently my MOS doesn't seem to be in demand. It's just that I would really like to deploy and actually do what it was they trained me for before my contract ends, you know, that whole fighting a war thing. I hate sitting around doing nada.

To all those presently serving --- thank you for your sacrifices and efforts.
