Dan you mentioned the running without the keys---------my second trucks key tumbler messed up so I direct wired a toggle switch to the starter. Talk about hearing a starter grind if a leg hit that toggle (placed on the bottom of the pannel) LOL. I had to do the same thing to the corola.

My brothers first car was a '74 caddi. He and some buddies 'acquired' ahhhm some aviation fuel. They poured it in and JUMPed it till it died. I heard it flew pretty good. I have heard the jet fuels stories but they never ended well...but it would have been a hoot

I drove it into the ground. Gotta say it lasted for quite some time. 3yrs. The toggle switch and gas was the only money that went into it.

My first was a 77 corola & I beat the crap out of it in the mountains.I took it up every loging road & spur around Blewit Pass.I loved that car because it gave me the freedom to get into the mountains & explore. I had no idea a corola was capable of that ...very cool Barely capable, but it did the job for my first.

I used a screw driver several times when the keys could not be found...thank goodness I was never pulled over...try to explain that one..."Yea Sure Buddy, It's Designed That Way"

First vehicle, 61 International Pickup, My dad bought it for me for 16th birthday, paid $175, I used it to install water conditioning equipment for my dad's business. He made me buy all my own tools and paid me by the job. What a gift, I learned the value of working for yourself, and being responsible for your own work. I think the Internationals used heavy steal like 14 or 16 gage for the body...they were bruts. Your dad did you right...lets toaste the Dad's who made us what we are today...cheers The outside of the body was solid but it had what we called at the time "Michigan Air Conditioning" The floorboards had holes in it so that when driving down the road after a snow you would get slush all over your legs and the heater was marginal at best.

Your describing my current truck! A 79 Chev 2wd. The outside isn't to bad but it has AC now. The kids complain about getting splashed here and there. It's got a 350 Rocket in it that still has TONS of power.

I caught myself looking for an older truck from the mid-70's the other day because I want something I can work on and have fun. But then part of me wants a Jeep too. Old memories are good but sometimes we need to make new ones!

Hey Dogs
Lets get this started.
My first car was a 1963 Chevy Impala convertable. Originally it was a maroon color. I got it when I was 16 years old and earned the $350 dollars sitting on a lifeguard chair for two strait summers making $1.75 hour. The car was 10 years old when I got it and the fellow selling was getting rid of it since his 18 year old daughters had stayed out all night...bad luck for her and great luck for me.
It had a power roof, power steering but still had the big steering wheel. I added a AooHgaa horn and painted it red...wow the memories
Dan At the end of my Jr year in highschool we moved to a small town of 5000 people. The guys in the school had an interesting car race that they did. 2 cars would race from one end of the cemetary to the other end...roughly 1/2 mile. The road had at least 12 Rt and Left hand turns and you had to do it with your lights off and run at midnight with no moon. The champ in the school had won more races than anyone as well as he completely totaled 3 car by hitting very large monuments. By the end of my senoir year they gated the race track
