Canadians get HAMMERED and rear ended when it comes to getting stuff from the USA. It REALLY REALLY depends on WHO they use to SHIP it. If USPS is used, there is NO broker fee, JUST GST/PST/HST and possibly duties.

if UPS (brown) is used, there is anything from $40 "broker fee" all the way (as i found out one time)....to $500 broker fees. NEVER use UPS to ship to canada.

ALWAYS use U.S.P.S!

Too bad there aren't very many billionaire knife nuts. I'd love to see someone get hit with the fees and buy them out just to fire everyone in management.

I'd almost take law school just for revenge.

(I'm not bitter that UPS is stopping me from shopping at 90% of websites... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/footinmouth.gif" alt="" />)

That IS a bummer! We keep hearing more and more talk of Obama considering a "Value Added Tax". <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> I HOPE that some of our politicians will shoot it down! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crossfingers.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/doh.gif" alt="" />

Yeah the golden rule is to always use USPS, and for some reason I only seem to get charged tax at the border about half the time...

The only downside is if something disappears at the border, USPS says "We got it to the border that's the end of our responsibility" Canada post says "We never got it from the border" and the wonderful CBSA says "What $400 clutch?"

And then my friends you are out $400.

I'm only an hour from the border anyway so I could always drive down to pick up a huge item, but I hate being treated like a criminal to go across so I tend to avoid it.

If I lived so close to the border I would consider dual citizenship (if they still allow it).
I'm halfway considering it anyway. It would certainly make travel a lot nicer.
