This is my first attempt at a poll. I got to thinking yesterday about convex edges on knives. I have a couple knives with convex edges and really like them, but they are on blades that are 4" and above. How many of you have convex edges on smaller blades, less than 4", and how do you like them?

What size blade fo you have convex edges on?

its just easier to maintain, and it holds an edge better or so ive been told- more metal behind the edge.

I sharpen all my blades convex. I agree with snoballz. I am much better at maintaining a convex edge with a strop. Having more material behind the edge also increases confidence in edge strength. I realize a thinner edge will cut better but I prefer having one edge type and sharpening method. In my experience my convex blades do very well even at finer work.

Usually just convex all sizes, thickness/angle of convex will obviously vary depending on application.

I like convex edges on larger blades. On a smaller knife I like a flat grind or hollow grind. You dont have as much blade to work with to get the edge thinned out for a convex grind. I keep all of them sharp with a strop so I guess they will convex eventually.

This was proven to me again this weekend when I tried reprofiling a game warden. It just takes to much of the blade away to get it thinned out enough to cut as smooth as a hollow grind or flat grind.
