So, I was walking out of the local Home Depot and quickly scanned their flashlight rack. Usually I just think "not for me," and I leave (since they're right by the door). This time, however, something caught my eye. It was a completely new Maglite that is specifically designed to use an LED. I quickly looked at it, looked at the price, and put it back on the shelf. It wasn't very expensive, but I just figured Maglite finally jumped on the LED bandwagon. Well, I went home and later looked up this new light. It's the XL100. Once I saw this demo video, I was sold!

This light is amazing! It might not be the brightest, biggest, or baddest LED light out there, but it has some cool features! When I first saw it, I figured the light mode was changed by turning a knob. Nope! You simply rotate the whole light in your hand and hold down the power button with the chosen mode facing up. Further, while holding the button, the mode can be adjusted by twisting your wrist! Also, it does still work like a regular light if you simply push the power button and don't hold it down. To really get an idea of how it works, you need to watch the video.

Here are a couple cell phone pictures of it:

Very cool! The night light mode is pretty neat.

Thanks for the heads up.Might have to add it to the collection. They have been doing LEDs for quite a few years now but nothing like this.

It's better to have it & not need it, than to need it & not have it.

Very true. The past LED Mag-lites just seemed like an upgraded product, rather than a new design focused on a specific feature (the LED's). This new one started as an LED light, and I'm sure will continue to be an LED light for the foreseeable future. I don't think the LED upgrade for the older lights was a bad idea, though. In fact, I upgraded my Mini-Mag and 4 D-cell Mag to LED's.

I know, these lights aren't like Fenix or Surefire, but they keep me and my college student budget happy.

My father has one that I've played with. Personally I found the interface a little fiddly and counter-intuitive, and I wouldn't want to be in the position of trying to remember how to use it in the middle of a thunderstorm or accident scene. But it's definitely solidly built, powerful for its price range, and shows a lot of creativity. For people that find the UI agreeable, it basically matches Inova's price range and quality but adds more features. Not a bad place to be for Maglite.

Interesting. I'll agree that the mode adjusting takes a little getting used to, but for a quick push of the button, it's still just on and off.

My BnLaw had one of those it was pretty neat, certainly the most gadgety light I've ever used. I want to try some of the AAA or AA Fenix lights. Maybe they will my EDC Surefire a run for it.

Looks interesting and its good to see Maglite taking a step in the right direction. I checked this light out on brightguy.com and it has a pretty good runtime and it should be bright enough for its size. I could never see myself buying this light for 2 reason...first is that it has the plastic carrier that holds 3 batteries. I have never had any luck with those carriers because they break too easy. Second The whole user interface seems a little too complicated. Its not that I couldnt figure it out but I'd hate it if the thing got dim when I rotate my wrist.
