I like pants I wear some every day in fact.
I am a fan of the Dickies carpenter in heavy canvas (but that is cotton).
I have been looking at the LA Police gear pants for a little while, my dad just got some, but I haven't had a chance to ask him about them yet.
For colder outdoor Pants I have a great pair of heavy wool West Germany cargos that have served me well for over 12(?) years now

The Bear Survivors have mesh front/hand pockets.
Doesn't make sense to me,especially for the price.
The Beans look ok though.Poly instead of nylon, much softer.
Just keep the embers off them when you're sitting around the camp fire. That goes for any synthetic I suppose.
I have a pair of the Riggs also but the waist is smaller than my other pants in the same size.
I currently wear Carhartt light weight cargo pants for camping.I love cotton!I just don't go out in the rain.I had a friend when I was in the USMC who would rub parifin wax on the fronts of his pants when he hiked in the Shenandoah in the Virginias'.
Have you tried scotchguard on your cotton pants?

No, I should try that. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I've liked the Riggs, I'm just exploring other options.

But there may be no one perfect pair of pants. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I wear these 2.5 seasons (late fall, winter and early spring) out of the year. In late fall and early spring, they can be worn without any "long underwear" and they breath fine. If it gets in the 60's and I'm active I tend to sweat faster than they can release the moisture. In winter I wear a pair of long underwear and I stay warm unless I am completely inactive for a long while.

I've spent a day hunting in a Pacific Northwest down pour and I stayed pretty toasty and dry.

In the winter, I do a lot of Coyote hunting and go from warm truck to hiking and then sitting and calling. The breathability is a plus in this type of activity. If you work up a sweat while hiking and then sit down in sub-freezing temps, things get really cold really fast. So, these pants are perfect for that type of hunting.

They have double material on the front that makes them tough and help if I need to lay in prone or on a knee while hunting.

So, warm, water-resistant, good breathing and tough. A little on the expensive side, but to me they have been worth it.

Here's a link. There are about 70 Reviews for these pants.

Those look like some really nice pants. They'd be great in cooler months.

I just had two pair of these britches arrive the other day...

http://www.lapolicegear.com/basic-operator-pant-elastic.html

They are 60/40 cotton/poly and I already had two pair of the 511 tactical ripstop 65poly/35cotton. Great pants with maximum utility, for the price.

I liked the leather pocked protector. So, I added a piece of rip-stop tent repair fabric to the pocket. I think it works fine. We'll see how it holds up to real use.
Thanks for the idea.

I use the standard Dickies Work pants you can get at Wally World for just about everything. Even when I'm outdoors, they have Great stain resistance and water resistance. You aren't going to stay completely dry, especially if you fall into a body of water, but they treat the pants with ScotchGard, and it tends to shed water pretty rapidly. They're really inexpensive, and the Double knee means less scraping on your knees when prone. Plus, they're DURABLE. I still wear pairs I've owned for more than 3 years. I have had a problem with a couple of the buttons coming off eventually, but otherwise no complaints. I have a few tan pairs for playing in the woods, and the black ones suit just about any occasion fine. The permanant crease even lets me get away with wearing them to more dressy functions. Too bad they don't come in multi-cam...

I want to upgrade to the 5.11 Tactical HRT pants, but that's a pretty big leap in price for my meager income. Can't really afford a new wardrobe right now. I wear 5.11 boots, and my pocket knife is a (now discontinued) 5.11, and I've been pretty impressed with thier products as well.

I have the LAPG operator pants, regular not the new elastic ones. Not bad at all. They shed water relatively well and so far they have help up pretty well. I am required to wear pant like thta when I teach at the range. SO they haven't been beaten up to badly but they have held up to kneeling and prone postion shooting as well as rifling through the pockets for ammo and pens etc, etc. I bought a few different colors and plan to use them for some hiking and hunting this fall. That will be the test.

ive got several pairs, theyre a steal at 17 bucks. the new elastic ones are ok, they removed the pocket on the leg and the two front slits which is a shame because i love those pockets. they also removed the "organizer" in the thigh pockets.

they stand up to use pretty well, i love them
