Copied this over from the deathchat, i thought everyone should know and i didnt want it to get lost.

His identity has not yet been released.- i will update this as i find out more

Today we had a state trooper get rear ended.

the impact was so great the car burst into flames and the officer didnt make it.

I feel so terrible for his family, things like this really bug me. Not for the obvious reasons, but how people hold so much disdain for officers in general and how its only incidents like this that people feel any sort of compassion towards them. Im sure there are some who even hear this sort of thing and say "good riddance". i hate how this is the way we see these men and women.

Miami is no small town its no secret. This happened right by my girlfriends house (less than 4 mins away) and i drove by to see if maybe i could offer at least to buy any trooper a coffee if there were any still blocking the highway, but i didnt see anyone. I wonder how my offer would be taken by the officers...

anyway, i know we have a few LEO here and i just wanted to extend my thanks to those who do this job day to day. I hope to be among you sometime soon.

ill start a whole thread for this, i think everyone should here this and id rather it not get lost in the deathchat

Like Snobalz I posted this in ZDC but will do so here as well.

Sno, unfortunatly to many people have the attitude of "those dirty rotten bribe taking donut eating cops (until they need one" then sometimes it's still the same thing when THEY don't get the answer or satisfaction they want. What we sometimes forget is that it's their job. They are paid to do something just like we are, only it's a job that makes people unhappy most of the time. I mean, who WANTS to see red(or blue) lights in their rearveiw when they're running late for something.

Yes, it many times IS a thankless job but it can be one of GREAT satisfaction at times as well. It is sometimes forgotten that it's a job one gets paid to do, not a lifestyle.

Yup. Issue surrounds the location of the fuel tank in relation to the truck. I remember some article about Ford making a special tub or liner to put in the truck to keep anything sharp from puncturing the tank. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I only hope that this wasn't the case as it would make his death all the more meaningless if it could have been so easily prevented.

Actually, found reference to it in Wikipedia as well:

Prayers and thoughts sent to this officers family. If the Crown Vic in question is the culprit then Ford should be held responsible as well as the people responsible for choosing that vehicle for the department.

Sorry to hear about the dead Police officer...

Sounds like the Ford Pinto all over again. Didn't Ford get massive fines last time? (That news even made it over here way back when..)

There was an officer in Dallas a few years back that had the same thing happen but the speeds were low and nothing that should have created such a horrable crash. Both the officer and the other driver did not make it.

A terrible thing to hear about...our prayers and thoughts go out to this officer and all involved in law enforcement

Dan

I watched a special on TV a couple of years ago where they did a bunch of rear end collision test with the Crown Vic and in one word it was UGLY.....
Ford has known about this problem for years, but so have the agencies that purchase the Crown Vic.
