Enough discussion of other makers/manufactures. Chop off's are fine, pics and discussion...NOT Permitted. Please review the rules if further clarity is needed
Dan Sorry Big Dog. Didn't mean to focus on another maker. I figured a size comparison picture would be alright, but I'll limit any comparisons to actual usage. Just gives me more reason to go out and use all of my knives! Sumo, I realized that I left my mouse pad and sandpaper back home, so I'll have to wait until I'm done with school to fix the edge. Maybe I'll just get a sheet or two of sandpaper and use cardboard backing for now.

Ah, pics whenever. I still need to get pics of a few things (know what I mean)! What ever could you mean?! I was just thinking, I've had this S5 for a while and not really commented on it here in the forum. The S5 really does seem like a knife that everyone really needs to own. It's the most practical size knife that I own, along with my Ratmandu that I'm too pansy to use (it was a bit pricey for a college student budget). The reason the knife is so dirty is because I went to it when I needed to split some kindling and shave some fatwood for starting a few fires. I think for one fire I used a standard Ranger RD6, but unless much chopping is in order, the S5 is a great size for most chores.

Enough discussion of other makers/manufactures. Chop off's are fine, pics and discussion...NOT Permitted. Please review the rules if further clarity is needed. Dan 6. No discussing other manufacturer's products. Comparisons and chopoffs are great though! [Emphasis added.] Help me out here, Dan. We've been posting pics and comparing other manufacturers' knives to Scrap Yard knives ever since I've been here, and not always in the context of a chopoff. (After all, not all Scrap Yard knives are choppers.) Up to now, as long as we included Scrap Yard and/or Bussekin knives in our pics and comparisons, that was OK with you. So why the sudden change? If we can no longer make comparisons and post pics outside of chopoffs, should Rule No. 6 be rewritten to reflect that? I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to violate rules they're not aware of. I was wondering the same thing.........

I was wondering the same. I figured that discussion of other manufacturer's knives in comparison to any Busse kin blades was fine, but if actual use comparison needs to be done, that's fine with me. What Dan says, goes.

Ah ah ah! Don't forget home decor You've got a point there, dl. Without disparaging the Ontario Ranger Signature Series knives in any way, they really point out to me what incredible bargains Scrap Yard SR77 knives are. I simply cannot imagine anything a Signature Series Afghan could accomplish that a Dumpster Mutt CG could not. Enough discussion of other makers/manufactures. Chop off's are fine, pics and discussion...NOT Permitted. Please review the rules if further clarity is needed Dan Seriously Dan? Are you kidding us? Guy posts some pictures with a "Scrap Yard" knife and another makers blade, and some people comment on it, and you get all torqued off. God forbid someone should mention other than a Bussekin brand around here. Everyone knows that you make great blades. I own a couple. Your attitude towards other makers is childish. You should clarify the rules to say "Only Bussekin knives allowed or else you are in big trouble by me". Then everyone would know how you don't like other makers on your site. You make a decent knife, but so do alot of other people out there. Stop bitching, and handing out kool aid, and go make some more knives.

Well, I admit that it's difficult for me to know when it's okay to discuss other knife manufacturers here, but then I realize that it IS the Scrap Yard forum. I have made very brief mentions of other knives that I favor, and never any mention of those that I do not. This IS Dan's forum, but maybe it's time for a clarification of the rule(s). I will say that I try my best to keep my comments on other manufacturers products to other open discussion forums. But Scrap Yard knives are by far my favorite, so I'll continue to roost here and do my best to follow the rules.

If you take the time to conduct a search, you'll find MANY discussions and pics of other manufacturers' knives after Chris posted the rules and regs. As long as the discussions and pics were in relationship to Bussekin knives, we've never had a problem. Clearly, something got under Dan's skin this time. Whatever it was, I hope it passes quickly and we can go back to discussing Bussekin knives in relationship to the rest of the knife world. If not, then I agree that Rule #6 should be changed to reflect Dan's new position. Well put Bruce.

I have...but I like it here, and if I have to make adjustments in my knife discussing habits to continue to hang out here then I will. I AM guilty of disliking these whim driven interpretations of the rules. I do like to discuss other knives. I have many favorites, and I like to talk about them. Not necessarily comparing them, just discussing what I like about them. Scrap Yard will always be tops in my book. If Dan would come out with a camp axe and a folder, I would have all bases covered.
