I recently started on line banking. While checking my account balance this morning I noticed a huge deposit from the Social Security Administration. I mean like a year's worth of monthly benefits. I don't know if it is a mistake or what, as I have not received any information from SSA lately. It was well over double what I was expecting. Maybe it's a government bailout for Third World Grind Shop. I'm afraid to spend any of it yet. It could be another mistake. Or a trick. Or it could just be Obama money from his "stash". Think of the high old time I could have had at Blade if this had come in May. Nothing but Busse LEs and Custom Shop stuff for me! My experience with the government direct depositing too much money into my account is this; don't touch it, because they'll take it right back out just as unexpectedly and without any notice. It happened to me when I was in the service MANY times.

Vic - I would go the the SSA in person and ask them to check on this. Depending on how long ago you filed, it MAY be legitimate, but it's best to check it out before touching it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I have spent many days down there trying to sort it all out, Tom. No letter in today's mail. The problem is, I have been told different things at different times by different people down there. I have no idea what amount is right any more. The last time I went down there I had to pay $3900 in overpayments to my daughter's survivor benefits, but was told they owed me $6000 on my retirement benefits. Earlier, they told me they owed her $15,000 on her survivor benefits. Maybe I'll get a letter soon explaining it all. Yeah, maybe retro? have you tried them online? Not sure how responsive they are electronically.

Man, what a PITA! My experiences with the SSA have never been simple. That seems to be the case with most other people I talk to about it.

Yeah, I initially tried to file electronically, but it didn't go though. So I went to the office and filed. I'll be so glad when this is all sorted out. Maybe it is and I just don't know it yet. I was told to expect a letter this month, but nothing yet.
