So my Regulator finally arrived! About a week ago to be precise, but I've been very busy as of late, so I haven't had a chance to post this. Pics will be up later, but for now I just wanted to get some advice!

I've never owned a carbon steel blade before, so I was kinda hoping you guys could give me some pointers for this SR-101 beauty! Any major do's/don'ts I should be aware of? I'm aware of SR-101's sensitivity to rust, and I've noticed some slight discoloring on the edge, does this mean it's time to sharpen or time to take it out and let the dog eat? I just want to make sure this awesome slab of manly steel lasts as long as possible, so any replies would be most appreciated!

Personally I have had mainly carbon steel blades and I LOVE them. Yes they do require more than use it and sheath it. I have never really had an issue with rust. IF YOU USE IT IT WON'T RUST (much)! Seriously, I have one carbon steel blade (actually a truck spring) I bought in the Philippines in 1976 and when ever it appeared to start rusting I just stuck into the ground several times until the "rust" disappeared then wiped it off and stuck it back in it's sheath.

Hope this helps. You can also use one of the miracle cloths (tuff cloth) on it or anything to coat the blade.

Oh and Welcome to the Yard!

Use that slab of manly steel!
Then wipe the edge with any good oil or wax preservative.
I like Renaissance Wax for no oily residue.

Usage is the best way to keep it rust free I've noticed, but since I don't plan on using my YardHook for food prep, I used my weapon lubricant on the edge to keep it rust free. I use TW-25B weapon lube. It's a dry weapon lube made from PTFE, kinda like teflon, and it fills in the pores in the metal leaving a roller bearing smooth surface, and if I upkeep the coating from time time after using it, it's basically rustproof. I use it on every one of my firearms, and it even prevents corrosion from corrosive primers. I've noticed on my knives, it makes for a smoother cut as well.

Use it, wipe it, use it, wipe it..........get the idea. If you are just going to look at it, Marine Tuff Cloth works well too.
