I think that one would be for the Weiener thread, except the Weiner is Stainless

I'm new but I'll add my 2 cents. I like to keep a soft (medium) Arkansas stone in that pouch, and a hard (fine) one as well if you can fit it. Just make sure you get one from a quality manf. like Dan's Whetstone or Natural Whetstones.com, both in Arkansas. I have a DMT diafold but find the diamonds dont sharpen as well as stones, maybe I'm just old school. It cuts quicker but most of the time you dont really need to cut you just need to touch up. I still carry it along with a diamond rod incase of a dent or rolling of the edge. As far as lube, I like just plain old water. It lets the stone sharpen well while still providing lubricity. I find oil kind of lets the blade slide on top of the stone too much and doesnt sharpen as well, IMO of course.

VM, Welcome to ScrapYardia! The land of the best made toughest best guaranteed knives in the business! I agree about the water. Not anywhere near as messy and you can find water almost anywhere, why you can even spit on it (Yeah I'm that old). But most places recommend oil and I have just kinda gone along with the flow.

I actually have some benchstones from David(naturalwhetstones.com) arriving tomorrow. I'll post some thoughts on them tomorrow evening, I have a set of Smith's I can compare them to.

So I got my stones in from David at naturalwhetstone.com and my thought are these benchstones are terrific. Leaps and bounds better than my previous Smith's Tri-hone stones. I received a set of soft, hard and black benchstones all nicely put together in a hardwood box, along with a bottle of "premium" honing oil. While I dont use oil, I appreciate that its included.
Sharpening was done my Dumpster Mutt DC which I used the past couple of days cutting trees down (~4-5" in diameter) and battoning just cause I can <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> The first thing I noticed was that the hard (fine) stone cut a little better than I'm used to and got a very sharp edge back with about 15 strokes per side, probably more than it really needed I was just having fun. Then I moved on to the black and let me tell ya, if you dont have a black stone, get one now! Its amazing how quicky it brought the edge to razor-like in ~10 passes per side. Put it on the strop with green compound and shizam, I dont see how it could be sharper.
So, big A+ to David and his benchstones. I am so glad I stuck with these instead of buying that Sharpmaker I seen at the store last week. I highly recommend these stones OP. You wont be disappointed.

DMT Mini. These are small enough to fit two in there, probably. That would let you have a few different levels of grit. I suggest breaking the stone in first on a junk knife. These things have a real bite to them at first. Once broken in though, DMT stones are awesome. They are the longest lasting diamond stones I have come across.
I usually use a very fine ceramic stone to polish off the edge if I want to shave hairs with the knife.
But, it is debatable if this is the best way to keep an edge anyway. There are some out there (including me) who believe a slightly less polished edge acts as micro serrations and is more utilitarian. I have seen test of rope cutting where a knife that could shave took longer to go through a thick rope than the same model knife that couldn't shave. There are many many sites out there devoted to sharpening, even some pretty lengthy books. I have a number of the DMT stones:tried the other diamond hones and found the DMTs last longer. I found with the mini hones (key-chain models) that the folding part breaks,so I simply epoxied two hones (red, and blue) back to back to make a mini diafold (minus the folding...).I carry it in a small belt pouch I made, but it will fit almost anywhere.

I just read an article in I think it was Blade magazine, where folks are using (and haveing great results) using SIMPLE GREEN! They said you can use it full strength or maybe better, thin it down with water just a touch. AND when it gets to clogged up, just soak it for a couple days in FULL STRENGTH Simple Gren and it will clean up nicely.
