looks to be some sort of antelope, probably pretty young. How far north are you, I might be able to find wildlife listings in your area that could clarify what it could be.

I am fairly far south, that was found basically on the Alberta/B.C. border maybe 3 hours north of Montana. Or an 1.5 hours southwest of Calgary Alberta

Wikipedia said pronghorn range that far north, especially being that close to Montana, and a quick google image search yeilded this:



I would have to venture, based on the shape of the orbits of the eyes, and the bony horn base being too long for a female, that it is probably a fairly young pronghorn male. The horn stubs don't look thick enough to be a fully grown male yet. That would be my guess, but at the same time, the stubs look like they point backwards from the head.

what's the blade length on that folder? 3.5 inch? 4 inch?

Close to 4 inches if a large Sebenza.

3.5" blade. The skull is just a touch wider than my palm and no longer(not including fingers)

The stubs do point towards the back of the skull at roughly a 20 degree angle.

There are pronghorn in the area not many and I have never seen them that far west(though that is not saying much) so it could very well be a young male, though something demonic was also what first popped in my head lol.

I'll still go with my previous answer, but I can't explain the rearward facing prongs, and google didn't turn up any other sort of antelope in the area, of course it could very well be my search-fu is weak today.

That is obviously a horn dog skull. They're very dangerous.

Glad you found it when it was already dead then, no telling what could have happened!
