This is a series that has been playing on Discovery channel.
It features Dave Canterbury, an army-trained scout, sniper, hunter and Cody Lundin, minimalist and primitive skills expert.
Pretty good series with some GREAT info and techniques.

I love this show, it's hilarious to see the minimalist suffer because he didn't bring shoes. You get what you pay for, IMO

I can appreciate what it takes to have the ability to survive w/o the necessities of life, but don't see the value in a lot of it. Unless you are living it on a daily basis you are probably not acclimated to leaving behind basic needs like a knife, sufficient clothing, firestarting gear, and shoes.

I can appreciate the situation too, but to me it's a matter of why would you put yourself into that position unless you absolutely have too? They're paying him for it, I'm sure, so if it's worth it to him, go for it. It's like the article that was posted a while ago on the forums, a gentleman lost his life while attempting to survive on his own. There is value in having the skills to survive, but there is no value in straining them to the breaking point intentionally.

I like the show. Everyone is always picking on Cody for not wearing shoes (he has been doing it for 20 years) and how he is putting himself at risk. No one mentions Dave going exploring at night, drinking water from an unknown source, or attacking an alligator in a swamp. All things that could be avoided and unnecessary!

Next week they'll be in Cody's stomping grounds, the desert.
Should be good.

It's an interesting show and can be a learning aid, though there IS somebody filming them. I have both of Cody's books, and he believes that what he does is right for HIM, but not for everyone - regarding not wearing shoes, etc. He is a little easier on the nerves and I believe in a survival situation would be less stressful to live with. Dave is certainly knowledgeable, but plays up to the camera and is a little over-dramatic. Perhaps over time he will calm down a little. It's interesting to see the different styles of the two, and funny as to the different "shots" they take at each other. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
The next show in the desert should be really interesting! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I enjoy the dynamic between both guys in the show, it is entertaining.

Seth, true that. I keep in mind when I'm watching this, or Man vs Wild, that they have not only the camera man, but a full team of 5 guys with them at all times, making sure things don't go awry. I think it might give people the wrong idea, that going out of your way to do something totally crazy like dangle over a canyon 200 feet in the air is a perfectly normal thing to do in a survival situation. There's bound to be someone who goes out, tries it, and ends up getting hurt, or worse. A lot of people don't read, and understand, the disclaimer before watching the show. These fellas have medical aid and a rescue team standing 15 feet away behind the camera. There is a ton of information to be gleaned from the show, but in the right context.

I just wouldn't opt out of footwear, lol...

It is a very interesting show!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

CODY IS THE MAN! And a true Survivor <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

If I had to choose between the two in a SHTF situation, I'd choose Cody anytime without a second thought!!!

I think it's very interesting that Cody doesn't spend half the show calling the other guy names. That shows a real strength of character!

And yea I know it's a show, but I'm sure if Cody did make derogatory remarks like the other guy, I'm sure they'd show'em. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
