Turning Scrap into a Knife? #434012 07/27/10 07:46 PM

I ran into a roadblock while modding my regulator into a bayonet. Now, I have to wait on some parts to get here. So, to kill sometime, and in true Scrap Yard fashion, I made something that almost resembles a knife out of the leftover parts of the M7 bayonet I cannibalized for the mod.

Here's what I started with.

Here's what I did to the blade I cut off the M7 bayonet.

There was no planning or drawings. I just started cutting and grinding until it felt good in hand. Then, I wrapped it in 550 cord like any good Marine would do, or at least one too lazy to make a real handle.

Not sure this thing is useful for anything, but it killed some time.

WOW, is that what the tang looks like? Has it been modified? I guess I expected something more substantial.

The Regulator has not been modified except for having the handle removed and coating stripped.

Very cool project JJ. The reg tang is full 1/3 thick, it's very stout

Now that I've takin the time to appreciate it I will have to agree. The corners are radiused and the taper gives the balance that I like with the knife. It just kind of suprised me what she looked like almost completly naked.I should know better at my age. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" />

Very cool, the scales on the M7 just have screws holding them on?
I am planning on ordering an M7 myself for a bit of a conversion project. I won't post it here as it is definitely not family friendly but seeing the M7 without it's scales does help give me some ideas. Thanks!
