I like the idea, but doesn't some parang styles have a point, in case you need to poke something.

The Lofty Wiseman one has a point :

Vic's parang blade shape with Reg' handles would be a winner! Made with 3/16" stock it would even be a 'user'. IF Dan does a parang at all and puts a point on it, (like Lofty's design) let's have the standard large handle and a steel lug guard not the Reg' handle!

I say keep it simple and keep it cheap. You can easily find parang style knives for under $100, usually made in 1055 or such. The British Army Martindale #2 Golok has a definite parang shape to it. The steel is pretty soft, though, but you can find them for under $60. But one in SR77 or SR 101 with a nice fat cushy Res C handle would be sweet. Keeping the price down is important in these "beaters". Only a bonafide fanatic like me would pay for a custom parang. Dan's would bridge the gap between the really cheap military models and the expensive customs, and out perform them.

Instead of a radius on the spine at the tip make it angled like a reverse tanto,
then it'll be plenty pointy & probably easier to make with less grinding.
Come on Dan you can do it.

Now I have thought about it a bit, I really want one more than I did before. I have a British small Golok but the steel won't take an edge, I think it is too soft. Now some SR77 would be perfect for me.

Pitman, we could go on for a long time showing pictures of good parangs by other makers. I'm sure Dan gets the message by now. Here is hoping we see one from the Yard soon.
