Those Vorpals are huge too aren't they?

Sorry Pitman,no offence to you just the B-29,way too much belly for me.
A straighter edge is a more efficient chopper,
with more blade area to bite the wood.
I found that out with the sod vs yard hook
& the bwm vs a kershaw outcast.
The curved blades will chop, sure,I just prefer a straighter blade.
Randy's Vorpal with the long gradual upcurve has as much curve as I would want in a chopper.

Soo,any news on the SY Parang yet Dan?Hehe.

I hope Dan sees all these pictures of other brand parangs and shuts this thread down! Then immediately makes us a Scrap Yard Parang!

Immediately!

You're so right HD, would be a game changer in this class/price range.

So I have been thinking alot about this a have been looking at a bunch of different Parangs. I originally thought something like 11 inches would be good. But I have changed my opinion.

I think somewhere around 12-14 inches would be better. It would be a more machete\chopping work horse.

I dont know what you all think. The smaller it would be the less effective I believe it will be to make hooches, chop wood, and clear brush. But this is just my thought. Either way I'd buy one.

The Parang idea seems to be popular here. And Busse Combat has not done one of those yet, to my knowledge. Let Scrap Yard be the first! I would certainly buy a SY Parang.

How in the world did I ever get to be a moderator? Half the rules were meant to stop things that I did wrong on the forum. But I really, really want Dan to make a parang. Really.

I say keep it simple and keep it cheap. You can easily find parang style knives for under $100, usually made in 1055 or such. The British Army Martindale #2 Golok has a definite parang shape to it. The steel is pretty soft, though, but you can find them for under $60. But one in SR77 or SR 101 with a nice fat cushy Res C handle would be sweet. Keeping the price down is important in these "beaters". Only a bonafide fanatic like me would pay for a custom parang. Dan's would bridge the gap between the really cheap military models and the expensive customs, and out perform them.

A sr77 Martindale Golok style parang with standard res-C is the stuff of dreams! That would be a super chopper/survival tool.

Vic, you're not too shabby as a mod'!
