It is nice here. We be got the city, forest, mountains, desert, and ocean all within a two hour drive. I'm officially jealous. Beach is 4 hours away (Corpus Christi). Mountains are...well, I think close to 10 hours away (New Mexico). Forest of any size would be the Piney Woods in East Texas, which are about 4 hours away to get into the thick stuff. Even the city is small....BUT, Austin is one of the best cities evah. Live music galore, lots of great food, the people are fantastic. Oh, and we have the lakes for wakeboarding / fishing / etc that are all within 1 hour of getting to.

Anyone in the Yard have any experience with Jiu-Jitsu?
I've been eyeballing getting into for about two years now...and think it would be a fantastic thing for health / mind, but haven't been able to commit to it.

If you're into high-tech, and interested in Green-Tech....I think you'll see a lot from Austin in the coming years.

I've never really heard anyone say that they disliked it. I "think" it's a somewhat health-concious city as well....with lots of active people / groups that organize different events.
Oh, and SXSW is here every spring.

I will note the one bad thing, however, is the traffic. But, I think you get that with ANY city...from what limited experience I have at least. Orlando was hell, Dallas is crazy, Santa Clara was a roadblock, and you're better off walking in San Francisco.
