I was just wondering since you all buy stuff in bulk.

We freeze a lot of fresh stuff. Buy a lot of stuff in cans as well though. Since we kind of have the target 3-4 month time frame we stick with those options instead of putting all the work into canning for such a short timeframe.

Do you have much trouble over the winter time and how about the spring thaws or maybe floods? getting to the store that is.

It can be dicey at times. 2 years ago there was some fairly bad flooding that just about took a bridge out on the only road to town as well as washed away significant portions of the highway, up to half the width in places. However it only lasted a couple of weeks before they had enough repairs that we could pass through.

We try and avoid travelling when the temperature drops below -45 or 50.

I have only expeperienced washouts a couple times, and it was just on a road I WANTED to take. Detour was only about 1/4 mile. But I know in places of extreme climatic conditions, flooding and freezing can be a big problem.

Speaking of problems, did you ever get your tire troubles ironed out. You said they only lasted you a few thousand miles at one time.

I don't blame you for staying in at those temps! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" />

Doesn't take long to freeze solid if something goes wrong at those temperatures. Not worth risking your life.

As for the tires, I believe it is just a consequence of the chip seal (method of "paving" the roads) here. All my other riding buddies have issues with tire life as well. My using dual sport tires aggravates it as they are normally a softer compound to begin with.

Yeah you said it was the paving method they used. But you also said something about a different type/brand/compound tire you were wanting to try. AND it might have been the tires on your bike you were talking about, I just can't remember for sure.
