The IS lenses are nice, I used one at the paper, but as long as I mind my shutter speeds I'm usually ok with non-IS.

I shoot with a 18-105mm VR Nikor lens on my personal camera. It has the same issues with aberrations, but I still love the lens. The VR is the Nikon equivalent of Canon IS. The stabilization is really needed on these types of lenses since they are usually slow (3.5 or higher F-stops causing you to have slower shutter speeds.)

We just got patty another bag. Actually it came with a JVC vhs C video recorder. The battery won't hold a charge, but if you hook it up to 110 it works like a brand new one. Matter of fact we got it from our county prosecutor's secretary's daughter. $20.00! Oh and it still has the manual, charger/110 power converter and converter to camera cord! Just does not have the Vhs c tape that you put into a VCR.

This whole "I need a fighting knife" thing is mostly wannabe stuff, and I also buy into it. Hence my wanting a Karambit. But I will carry mine concealed and use it to protect my wife and myself IF ever needed, which I doubt it ever will be. But I was in the Boy Scouts and I DO frequent the Yard!
